Sherdog’s Top 10: Longest Bellator MMA Title Reigns

No. 2

2. Hector Lombard

Despite his modest 5-foot-9 frame, Lombard stood head and shoulders above the rest of Bellator’s middleweight division. The Cuban judoka manhandled his competition and went a perfect 8-0 with the promotion, including a record-setting six-second knockout of Jay Silva and a 38-second finish on Herbert Goodman. Lombard arrived on the Bellator scene in April 2009 and won the Season 1 middleweight tournament, shredding Jared Hess in the final to become the organization’s first champion at 185 pounds. Non-title bouts against Silva, Goodman, Falaniko Vitale and Trevor Prangley were sandwiched around a successful defense against Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 34. Lombard vacated his championship after 1,040 days at the top, signing with the UFC on April 24, 2012.
