Preview: UFC Fight Night 168 ‘Felder vs. Hooker’

Rogerio de Lima vs. Sosoli

Heavyweights

Marcos Rogerio de Lima (16-6-1) vs. Ben Sosoli (7-2)

ODDS: De Lima (-145), Sosoli (+125)

Rogerio de Lima has had one of the strangest late-career pivots in recent memory. Through the first few years of his UFC career, “Pezao” plied his wares at light heavyweight, where every fight was kill or be killed; the Brazilian only had about two minutes of stamina, and if he did not score a knockout in that time, he would find himself on the mat shortly thereafter. In 2018, de Lima decided to move to heavyweight, and somehow, he is now a completely patient fighter who is more than willing to rely on a newly found wrestling game, which he used to grind out Adam Wieczorek and control Stefan Struve before the latter submitted him. He will take on Sosoli in his latest assignment.

A mildly interesting prospect out of Australia, the “Combat Wombat” is a solid boxer with some impressive hand speed, but he is clearly a minus athlete and his wrestling defense looks to be non-existent. At the very least, it was enough to frustrate Greg Hardy in October and could be enough to score a quick knockout of Rogerio de Lima here.

With Rogerio de Lima’s new and more intelligent approach, the Brazilian should be able to wait out an opportunity to score some takedowns and grind out a win. The pick is Rogerio de Lima via decision.
