Preview: UFC Fight Night 218 Prelims

Kim vs. Bohm

Women’s Flyweights

Ji Yeon Kim (9-6-2, 3-6 UFC) vs. Mandy Bohm (7-2, 0-2 UFC)

ODDS: Kim (-255), Bohm (+215)

This should be an entertaining fight between two flyweights badly in need of a win. Kim is consistent to a fault. “Fire Fist” has an approach built around countering, waiting for her opponent to strike and then returning fire as hard as possible. There is at least some focus, and it can result in some exciting scraps against opponents who set a high pace, but it is an idea that has come with some clear drawbacks. Kim is not enough of a power hitter to clearly separate herself in terms of effective offense, and she can be outmaneuvered by opponents willing to do anything other than standing and trading. With that said, Kim has been a perennially tough out despite her current four-fight losing streak—she had a clear case to win her fight against Priscila Cachoeira in 2022—and should prove stout once again against Bohm. Germany’s Bohm has struggled to leverage her physical tools into something effective while in the UFC. She seemed taken aback by the athleticism and constant aggression of Ariane Lipski in her UFC debut, and while she was more competitive against the less imposing Victoria Leonardo, she had little answer for the Louisianan’s wrestling. That will not be a concern here, as neither woman figures to pursue a takedown, which makes this an even fight. Kim is the more confident fighter but should allow this fight to settle into a series of exchanges where both women figure to have their moments. Kim barely gets the nod thanks to her consistency, but it would not be a shock if Bohm’s physical talent lets her take over as the harder hitter. The pick is Kim via decision.
