Women's Bantamweights
Nora Cornolle (7-1) vs. Melissa Dixon (6-0)ODDS: Dixon (-360), Cornolle (+285)
The UFC keeps looking for talent to fill out their women's bantamweight division, and these two look to build some momentum after successful - if unspectacular - UFC debuts. Solid but unspectacular is the name of the game for England's Melissa Dixon, and that's worked well for her thus far; "No Mess" doesn't have much explosiveness or athleticism to her game, but she's tough and dogged, marching down her opponents in the hopes of taking things to the mat. She followed that gameplan and wore out Irina Alekseeva without much issue in October, and her follow-up comes here against France's Nora Cornolle. Cornolle's a bit harder to parse; she has some power and physicality to her game and can score a knockout, but most of her success has typically reflected the weaknesses of her opponents rather than Cornolle bringing something particularly spectacular to the table. That held true in her UFC debut last September; Joselyne Edwards found a ton of success with her wrestling, but didn't use it to mount much offense, giving the judges enough leeway to reward Cornolle's more effective striking whenever the fight was standing. Dixon's at least more dedicated in trying to make something happen once she gets the fight to the ground, and that looks like an effective approach here, even if she'll have to eat some shots to do so; the pick is Dixon via decision.
