5. Chris Leben
Leben was the quintessential brawler, and he parlayed his thirst for hand-to-hand combat into a 22-fight stay in the Ultimate Fighting Championship that included victories over Patrick Cote, Jorge Santiago, Yoshihiro Akiyama and the great Wanderlei Silva.
“The Crusher” used his appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter 1” as a springboard to the UFC and connected with nearly 1,800 strikes -- 1,791 to be exact -- during his career in the Octagon. That number would likely have been much higher were it not for eight fights that ended inside one round. A 27-second knockout against Silva and a 95-second stoppage on Jason Thacker were among them, along with his ill-fated 49-second encounter with Anderson Silva.
Leben eclipsed the 200-strike mark in two of his bouts: The former World Extreme Cagefighting champion landed 200 in a unanimous decision over Luigi Fioravanti at UFC Fight Night 4 on April 6, 2006 and connected with 208 on his way to a third-round knockout against Terry Martin at UFC Fight Night 11 on Sept. 19, 2007.
