UFC 12 provided the stage for the promotional debut of Vitor Belfort, a 19-year-old Brazilian juggernaut who took the sport by storm with back-to-back finishes against Scott Ferrozzo and Tra Telligman. Neither man survived to see the 90-second mark against “The Phenom.” Further down the card, Justin Martin left his footprint on the event in an alternate bout for the heavyweight tournament Belfort eventually won. There, the 6-foot, 205-pound Texan dispatched Eric Martin with a heel hook 14 seconds into the first round of their brief and largely forgotten encounter at the Dothan Civic Center. It remains the fastest leg lock finish in UFC history.
