UFC light heavyweight champion Jones’ elbows are so devastating that a lone blow to Vera’s face broke his cheekbone in three places.
At first glance, the shot Jones landed on Vera does not look much different than others earlier in the round. However, after turning up the volume on the video, the audible smacking sound you hear is Vera’s face shattering to smithereens. Jones’ elbows cost him the only loss of his MMA career in a disqualification against Matt Hamill, but they also reportedly caused injuries so great to Vera that “The Truth” was unable to board a flight home. A current member of the One Fighting Championship roster, Vera wound up having two plates inserted into his face. After nearly 10 months out of action, he finally returned to the Octagon.
