By The Numbers: Nikita Krylov vs. Magomed Ankalaev

Hard-charging contenders will lock horns inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight division when Nikita Krylov squares off with Magomed Ankalaev in the UFC Fight Night 186 co-main event on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Krylov has rattled off 11 wins across his past 14 appearances. “The Miner” last competed at UFC Fight Night 170, where he took a three-round unanimous decision from Johnny Walker on March 14. Ankalaev, meanwhile, finds himself on a run of five consecutive victories. He last appeared at UFC 254 in October, when he buried Ion Cutelaba with punches in the first round of their rematch.

As Krylov and Ankalaev move ever closer to their pivotal confrontation, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

28: Years of age for Krylov, who was born on March 7, 1992 in Krasnyi Luch, Ukraine—a municipality of roughly 80,000 people in Luhansk Oblast province on the eastern side of the eastern European nation.

15: Krylov victories by submission, accounting for 56% of his career total (27). His methods of choice: six rear-naked chokes, three guillotine chokes, two Achilles locks, two kimuras, one keylock and one armbar. Krylov owns 11 other wins by knockout and one by decision.

9: Sub-minute stoppage victories on the Krylov resume. He punched out Alexander Umrikhin in 56 seconds on July 27, 2012; submitted Alexey Stepanov with a rear-naked choke in 29 seconds on Sept. 14, 2012; dismissed Anatoliy Didenko with an Achilles lock on Sept. 15, 2012; prompted a doctor stoppage against Viktor Smirnov in 12 seconds on Oct. 2, 2012; tapped Denis Simkin with a keylock in 35 seconds on Dec. 22, 2012; put away Kylychbek Sarkarbaev with punches in 49 seconds on Jan. 19, 2013; cut down Walt Harris with a head kick and follow-up punches in 25 seconds on Jan. 25, 2014; dispatched Stjepan Bekavac with a guillotine choke in 53 seconds on June 2, 2017; and wiped out Emanuel Newton with a knee strike on Oct. 13, 2017.

8: Countries in which Krylov has competed as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone 14-2 in Ukraine, 4-2 in Russia, 3-1 in the United States, 1-2 in Canada, 1-0 in Ireland, 1-0 in Sweden, 1-0 in Netherlands and 1-0 in Brazil.

7: Submission attempts from Krylov as a UFC light heavyweight, tying him with Daniel Cormier for fourth on the promotion’s active list at 205 pounds. Only Glover Teixeira (13), Jon Jones (10) and Paul Craig (nine) have tried more.

28: Years of age for Ankalaev, who was born on June 2, 1992 in Makhachkala, Russia, the largest city in the Republic of Dagestan.

9: Ankalaev wins by knockout, accounting for 64% of his career total (14). His list of victims includes Dalcha Lungiambula, Marcin Prachnio, Wagner Prado and Maxim Grishin. Ankalaev owns five other wins by decision.

15: Seconds needed for Ankalaev to punch Lloyd Marshbanks into submission at World Fighting Championship Akhmat 17 on April 9, 2016. Having occurred in his fifth professional appearance, it remains the fastest finish of his 15-fight career.

134: Total strikes by which Ankalaev has outlanded the opposition during his current five-fight winning streak. He connected on 198 strikes in those five bouts while absorbing only 64 in return.
