Ex-UFC Champ Jon Jones’ Traffic Court Date Postponed to March 23

Jon Jones’ date in court for three traffic violations was pushed back from Wednesday to next month, according to online court records.

The former light heavyweight champion will now appear in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court on March 23. Jones was pulled over on Jan. 31 in Albuquerque, N.M., and charged with driving without a license, proof of registration or insurance.

Traffic violations of this nature are not normally a major issue, but Jones’ transgression drew more attention because the fighter was on supervised probation for fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident that left a pregnant woman injured in 2015. While the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office elected not to pursue a formal probation violation against Jones for breaking a law, the New Mexico Corrections Department did extend his community service by three days.

Jones responded to the criticism via Instagram on Monday evening.

“I’ve gotten my sobriety back, almost five months sober now,” Jones said. “Living happier and healthier. Got rid of a lot of people who didn’t need to be in my life. I’ve completed 65 appearances talking to the youth in the community. I’m about to win a world title in a few weeks, and they’re talking about tickets?”

Jones is scheduled to rematch Daniel Cormier in the UFC 197 headliner on April 23 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. “Bones” defeated Cormier via unanimous decision in their first meeting at UFC 182 before being stripped of his belt and suspended for his role in the hit-and-run accident.
