UFC 171 Gets Kelvin Gastelum-Rick Story Welterweight Clash in Dallas

A welterweight showdown between Kelvin Gastelum and Rick Story has been booked for UFC 171.

UFC officials Friday announced the matchup, which takes place March 15 at American Airlines Arena in Dallas. The pay-per-view event is topped by a welterweight title tilt pitting Johny Hendricks against Robbie Lawler and will also see Carlos Condit battle Tyron Woodley in another pivotal 170-pound affair.

Gastelum, 22, has been perfect through seven pro outings, winning “The Ultimate Fighter 17” by upsetting Uriah Hall via split decision at the live season finale. Following that April victory at 185 pounds, Gastelum cut to welterweight for his next Octagon appearance, submitting Strikeforce alum Brian Melancon with a rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night 27.

Story has won three of his last five fights, posting a 2-1 record in 2013. “The Horror” began last year with a knockout over ex-King of the Cage champion Quinn Mulhern but then dropped a split decision to Mike Pyle at UFC 160. Story last competed at November’s UFC 167, where he earned a unanimous verdict over Brian Ebersole.
