Du Plessis (22-2) won the belt from Strickland via split decision in January of last year. The South African fighter followed up the victory with a face crank submission win over Israel Adesanya. "Stillknocks" rides a 10-fight win streak into his second attempted title defense. The 31-year-old stepped on the scale weighing 185 pounds on the dot.
Meanwhile, Strickland (29-6) bounced back from losing the title by achieving a split decision win over Paulo Costa. "Tarzan" is now 4-1 in his last five fights inside the Octagon, which saw him upset Adesanya to become an unexpected champion. The 33-year-old will get a chance at revenge on Saturday and to reclaim the belt he lost last year. Looking as fit as ever, the American also weighed 185 pounds.
UFC 312 will air live on ESPN+ pay-per-view starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on Saturday. Prelims begin on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT before moving to ESPN+ and ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
