One Championship’s Sage Northcutt Targets Three Fights in 2021

“Super” assures that fans will see him competing more often in 2021.

After taking a nearly two-year hiatus, Sage Northcutt (11-3) has finally found a matchup. Earlier this week, One Championship announced that the Ultimate Fighting Championship alum would collide with former lightweight titleholder Shinya Aoki in a 170-pound contest at One on TNT 4. The clash will occur in the early hours in Singapore, but it will air live in primetime in the U.S. While talking with Sherdog, Northcutt explained that he isn’t afraid the schedule will impact his performance.

“It’s a good thing I have so much energy all the time,” he said. “I can wake up in the morning like at 3 a.m. and go for a jog outside or go training… If I have to wake up super early, it’s no big deal for me, I think I’ll be great.”

The last time Northcutt competed, he suffered a 29-second knockout at the hands of Cosmo Alexandre, who spoiled the promotional debut of Northcutt at One: Enter the Dragon back in 2019. During the clash, Northcutt suffered eight facial fractures and had to stay on the sidelines for a while to recover from the injury. Once he healed, the COVID-19 situation forced him back to the shadows. But now that some significant hindrances are in the past, Northcutt is planning on competing as much as possible in 2021.

“I’m expecting to have another one or two fights in the rest of this year,” he added. “Hopefully, by this year, I can get two or three fights in it. I definitely want to start getting back at it. Fans can expect me to be fighting more frequently, for sure."

One on TNT 4 event will go down on April 28. The card will also feature Aung La N Sang putting his light heavyweight belt on the line with Vitaly Bigdash and former UFC title contender John Lineker facing One newcomer Stephen Loman.
