It ranks as one of the biggest statistical blowouts in MMA history and one of the crown-jewel performances in Penn’s remarkable but uneven career. The Hawaiian stopped Sanchez on a fifth-round cut -- it resulted from a rare head kick -- in the UFC 107 headliner at the FedEx Forum, as he retained the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title in most convincing fashion. In short, Sanchez was out of his league. Penn dominated virtually every second of the fight, wobbling “The Nightmare” with a right hand during one of their early first-round exchanges and then closing the show by opening a horrendous gash on Sanchez’s forehead in the fifth. The cageside physician examined the cut and advised referee Herb Dean to call for the stoppage 2:37 into Round 5. The final FightMetric statistics told the tale: Sanchez went 0-for-27 on his takedown attempts and was outlanded by a 149-8 margin. Yes, 0-for-27 and 149-8.
