Israel Adesanya (185) vs. Nassourdine Imavov (185)

Round 1

Middleweights close the show in the five-round headliner, as a two-time champion in Adesanya (24-4, 13-4 UFC) looks to rebound from back-to-back losses and toes the line against a divisional upstart in Imavov (15-4, 7-2 UFC). Goddard draws the officiating assignment. Adesanya steps forward, feints and hammers home a body kick. Sharp leg kick from Adesanya and another, this time to the inside. Imavov eats another leg kick while moving forward. He crashed into the hips, works for a takedown and goes nowhere. Adesanya now sniping from the outside. “Let’s go Izzy” chants break out. Imavov clinches with double underhooks, but his opponent breaks free. Surgical jab from Adesanya. Counter right hand from the ex-champion. Imavov presses forward, winds up in the clinch and eats a knee to the body for his troubles. Jab from Adesanya, followed by a leg kick. Imavov steps forward with a right uppercut and drives the City Kickboxing star into the fence. The shot may not have hurt Adesanya, but it certainly got his attention. Thirty seconds to go. Lead left hook from Adesanya. Imavov blocks a head kick but eats one to the ribs just before the round ends.
