Hill vs. Cifers
Women’s Strawweights
Angela Hill (10-7) vs. Hannah Cifers (10-3)Advertisement
As a native of nearby Oxford, North Carolina, Cifers figured to get the call as soon as this card in Raleigh was announced. Cifers had some under-the-radar success in 2019, winning two fights against Polyana Viana and Jodie Esquibel while showing a basic but effective game. Cifers is small in stature, but she is willing to throw with power and stay active, which was enough to handle whatever Viana or Esquibel threw her way and return something harder. For her fight on home turf, she draws Hill, who fought four times in 2019 and remains as frustrating as ever.
Hill can also handle the lower reaches of the UFC’s strawweight division without much trouble, but her inefficiency plagues her against better competition. “Overkill” always looks good early with a movement-heavy style and a pace that she just cannot keep, eventually devolving into a plodding brawler. This fight has split decision written all over it, given that neither woman typically leaves a huge imprint on her fights.
Hill may be able to win this, but it is difficult not to envision Cifers picking up steam as the fight goes on while the former Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder tires. The pick is Cifers via decision.
