By The Numbers: Rafael Fiziev vs. Mateusz Gamrot


Two under-the-radar contenders will get another chance to separate themselves in the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight pecking order when Rafael Fiziev meets Mateusz Gamrot in the UFC Fight Night 228 main event on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The winner moves another step closer to an elusive title shot at 155 pounds.

Fiziev has rattled of six wins in seven outings. The Kill Cliff Fight Club rep last competed at UFC 286, where he wound up on the wrong side of a majority decision against former World Series of Fighting champion Justin Gaethje on March 18. Gamrot, meanwhile, enters the Octagon with victories in five of his past six assignments. The American Top Team export last fought on March 4, when he eked out a split decision over Jalin Turner at UFC 285.

As Fiziev and Gamrot approach their looming showdown in Sin City, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

30: Years of age for Fiziev, who was born in Korday, Kazakhstan, on March 5, 1993.

8: Fiziev victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 67% of his career total (12). His list of UFC victims: Rafael dos Anjos, Brad Riddell and Renato Carneiro. Fiziev owns one other victory by submission (8%) and three more by decision (25%).

58: Seconds needed for Fiziev to cut down Nandin-Erdene Munguntsooj with a head kick and follow-up punches at a Road Fighting Championship event on Dec. 23, 2017. Nearly six years later, it remains his fastest finish to date.

300,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Fiziev across his eight appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Fight of the Night” three times and “Performance of the Night” three times.

.848: Cumulative winning percentage between the two opponents—Gaethje and Magomed Mustafaev—who have defeated Fiziev. They sport a combined record of 39-7.

32: Years of age for Gamrot, who was born on Dec. 11, 1990 in Bielsko-Biala, Poland.

5: Gamrot wins by submission, accounting for 23% of his career total (22). His methods of choice: two heel hooks, one guillotine choke, one keylock and one kimura. Gamrot holds seven other wins by knockout or technical knockout (32%) and 10 more by decision (45%).

1,574: Days spent by Gamrot as KSW lightweight champion. He captured the title with a unanimous decision over Mansour Barnaoui at KSW 35 on May 27, 2016 and successfully defended it four times before vacating his throne to sign with the UFC on Sept. 17, 2020.

68: Rounds completed by Gamrot as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance on 12 different occasions and carries a 10-2 record in those bouts.

34: Combined victories between the two opponents—Beneil Dariush and Guram Kutateladze—who have beaten Gamrot. They boast a cumulative .784 winning percentage at 34-9-1.
