By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 238

Jairzinho Rozenstruik made life miserable for Shamil Gaziev.

Backed by a steady jab and solid takedown defense, “Bigi Boy” gradually weakened his opponent’s resolve en route to a technical knockout victory after four rounds in the UFC Fight Night 238 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. After beginning his professional tenure with 12 consecutive triumphs, Gaziev exited the ranks of the undefeated in discouraging fashion, while the 35-year-old Rozenstruik kicked off his 2024 campaign in style.

8: KO/TKO triumphs for Rozenstruik since 2019, the most of anyone in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In addition to Gaziev, Rozenstruik’s list of victims include Chris Daukaus, Augusto Sakai, Junior dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, Andrei Arlovski, Allen Crowder and Junior Albini.

127: Significant strikes landed by Rozenstruik, a UFC best for “Bigi Boy.” By comparison, Gaziev landed 22. Rozenstruik got better as time progressed, outlanding his foe 13 to 8 in Round 1, 19 to 7 in Round 2, 47 to 5 in Round 3 and 48 to 2 in Round 4.

.590: Significant striking accuracy for Rozenstruik, who landed 127 of 215 attempts. Gaziev, meanwhile, landed just 22 of 68 attempts — a 32% success rate.

78: Significant head strikes for Rozenstruik. Gaziev landed just 16.

1: Takedown landed in seven attempts for Gaziev. The Bahrain native secured 4:32 of control time in the bout, but just 42 seconds of that occurred in Round 3 and 4.

6: Consecutive victories for Muhammad Mokaev, currently the longest-active winning streak in the UFC’s flyweight division. Mokaev earned a hard-fought unanimous verdict against former title challenger Alex Perez on Saturday.

47: Significant strikes landed by Mokaev, the most of his UFC tenure. His previous best of 21 came in a victory against Malcolm Gordon in October 2022. By comparison, Perez landed 30 significant strikes.

17: Takedowns successfully defended by Perez. Mokaev landed just three of his 20 attempts in the 15-minute affair. Mokaev enjoyed only a slight edge in control time at 4:29 compared to 3:44 for Perez.

140: Total strike advantage for Umar Nurmagomedov in a lopsided decision triumph against Bekzat Almakhan at bantamweight. Nurmagomedov was successful on all five of his takedown attempts, logged 11:26 of control time and outlanded his foe by a 61-to-0 count in significant ground strikes in winning his fourth consecutive Octagon appearance.

1: Knockdown among three significant strikes landed over 15 minutes for Almakhan. After flooring Nurmagomedov in the opening moments of the bout, little went right for Almakhan in a one-sided defeat.

11: Consecutive professional triumphs — including three in UFC competition — for Steve Erceg, who defeated Matt Schnell via second-round knockout in their featured flyweight pairing.

10:08: Total control time for Eryk Anders in a three-round verdict against Jamie Pickett at middleweight. The former University of Alabama football player also landed five of 13 takedowns and held an 83-26 advantage in total strikes landed. The five takedowns are career best for Anders in 17 UFC appearances.

5: Consecutive UFC losses for Pickett, who revealed that he would retire after the fight.

43: Significant strikes landed by Vinicius Oliveira in his decisive third round against Bernardo Sopai. By comparison, Sopai landed 13 in the period. Oliveira ended the contest by knocking his opponent out cold with a flying knee at the 4:41 mark of the final stanza.

4: Consecutive victories for Aiemann Zahabi, tying him with Montel Jackson and Umar Nurmagomedov for the fourth-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Zahabi rallied for a unanimous decision victory over the previously unbeaten Javid Basharat in a preliminary contest on Saturday.

75: Significant strikes for Zahabi. The Tristar Gym product increased his output as the bout went on, landing 12 significant strikes in Round 1, 26 in Round 2 and 37 in Round 3.

61: Significant strike advantage for Christian Leroy Duncan in a second-round technical knockout victory against Claudio Ribeiro at middleweight. The Englishman outlanded his foe 41 to 3 in Round 1 and 24 to 1 in Round 2.

4: Finishes stemming from a front kick to the body in UFC history after Ludovit Klein dropped short-notice foe A.J. Cunningham with the maneuver and finished him with follow-up punches 4:36 into Round 1 of their lightweight bout. Klein joins , Siyar Bahadurzada, Alexander Volkov and Dan Hooker as the only fighters to finish a fight with a front kick to the body.
