By the Numbers: UFC London

Former UFC welterweight king Leon Edwards was no match for the grappling might of Sean Brady.

Action was at a premium on Saturday’s fight card at the O2 Arena in London. Nine of the 13 bouts ended in the hands of the judges, while the remaining fights concluded via submission. All eyes fell on Edwards vs. Brady in the main attraction, a restructured tilt formerly involving Jack Della Maddalena. The stylistic change from a striker to a grappler was too much for Edwards to adjust in time, and Brady largely ran him down over the course of four increasingly lopsided rounds. Ultimately, the slightly younger Brady established himself as a top contender by becoming the first man to force “Rocky” to surrender, while likely making any future championship aspirations for Edwards improbable.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 255, also known as UFC London, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

1: The number of times that former beltholder Edwards has ever been stopped as a professional. Brady pulled off a guillotine choke that likely earned him a title shot by becoming the first fighter to finish the durable Brit.

3: Brady’s guillotine choke was the third of his career, and his second in the UFC. This maneuver is the Renzo Gracie Philly product’s preferred method of victory, celebrating as many knockouts (three) as guillotines, with half his submissions coming by this move.

198: Brady overwhelmed Edwards, connecting 198 more times in total than his opponent, for a chasm of 221-to-23. It is the second fight in a row where Brady had this exact strike differential, as he put up 198 more total strikes than Gilbert Burns in Brady’s previous match.

0: While Brady put up stellar numbers on his adversary, Rounds 2 and 4 saw “Rocky” land zero significant strikes. Edwards had never been blanked in any round of his previous 18 Octagon appearances.

8: Carlos Ulberg skirted by Jan Blachowicz to improve his light heavyweight win streak to eight. Only two men in the history of the division have curated lengthier victorious stretches: Magomed Ankalaev (nine) and Jon Jones (13).

4: Four scoring media members—including one from Sherdog—handed in 29-28 cards in favor of Blachowicz, while the other eight handed down their 29-28 scores for Ulberg. Fan sentiment on MMADecisions swayed heavily towards the Polish ex-champ, despite Ulberg getting his hand raised.

9:29: Control time for Gunnar Nelson, who fell short to Kevin Holland by decision. The Iceland-based competitor had never amassed that much time in control in a single UFC bout.

108: Getting his hand raised after winning two of three rounds, Holland connected with 138 total strikes, or 108 more than opponent Nelson. In terms of significant strikes, "Trailblazer" outlanded his foe by 40, 55 to 15.

34: Years of age for Molly McCann, who left her gloves in the center of the cage after a submission loss to Alexia Thainara to signal her retirement. The Liverpool, England, native said farewell to the sport as a 14-fight UFC veteran that included victories over names like Ariane Lipski, Priscila Cachoeira and Luana Carolina.

2: The number of UFC events where two men named Chris Duncan competed. Both Chris Duncan and Christian Leroy Duncan appeared at UFC 286 together and won. This happened again at UFC London, where the Duncans prevailed at night's end.

16: Chris Duncan tapped Jordan Vucenic with a guillotine choke to break a stretch of decisions during the night. Vucenic had participated in 16 fights without ever losing by stoppage, only for that run to end at the hands of Duncan.

27: The number of fights Nathaniel Wood engaged in while sporting the nickname of "The Prospect." After earning a decision win against Morgan Charriere, the 31-year-old promised his next match would be accompanied by a new nickname.

8 (a different eight): Chris Padilla settled for a split decision over Jai Herbert to blow up the Brit's big day in front of a home crowd. It has been nearly eight years since "Taco" last picked up a decision eight wins ago over Ivan Castillo in 2017.

6: Losing a decision to Lone'er Kavanagh, Felipe dos Santos heard the final bell in his sixth straight outing, accounting for his time in the UFC and earlier. The Brazilian started his career with six consecutive bouts that were left out of the hands of the judges.

1 (again): Marcin Tybura notched a decision win over Mick Parkin by landing one more significant strike than his opponent, 61 to 60. It is not the first time a one-strike differential has been enough for "Tybur" to prevail, as he hit Greg Hardy one more time than Hardy struck him before the knockout.

11: With Tybura picking up the unanimous scorecards, he handed Parkin his first career defeat. It took Parkin 11 fights to finally drop his first bout.

73: Lumping up the debuting Andrey Pulyaev with 73 significant strikes in their three-round middleweight encounter, Christian Leroy Duncan surpassed his personal UFC best of 65 from two previous tilts. "CLD" earned the nod on all three cards to get the decision win.

+1200: Coming into her match with Puja Tomar, the betting line for Shauna Bannon to win by submission closed at +1200. She nailed the second-round armbar to secure her victory and cash the 12-to-1 prop bet called by Sherdog's Sean Sheehan.

6 (not the same six): Landing six takedowns to swipe a split decision over Nathan Fletcher, Caolan Loughran evened the score with his opponent at one win apiece. The six takedowns he scored in the match totaled as many as his previous combined tally in his first three UFC outings.

23: Kaue Fernandes connected with 23 increasingly effective leg kicks on Guram Kutateladze, dropping the Georgian numerous times with them en route to a unanimous decision win.
