Undercard Results

Former super flyweight world champion Carlos Cuadras was hoping to make a sensational splash in the final undercard bout in an effort to land a rematch with Roman Gonzalez, but would-be showcase opponent David Carmona was much tougher than expected. Cuadras seized control of the all-Mexico battle by landing several clean overhand rights, but none of his power shots inflicted enough damage for him to put Carmona away. Carmona rallied down the stretch with a vicious body attack that wilted Cuadras quite a bit but he was unable to close out the once-beaten fighter in the end and gave the final frame away. In the end, Cuadras won a unanimous decision with scores of 97-93 (twice) and 96-94.

Lightweight prospect Ryan Martin remained unbeaten as he continued his ascent through the rankings with an impressive showing to open up the pay-per-view telecast. Martin, from Chattanooga, used his long reach and an excellent body attack to slowly break apart Rochester’s Bryant Cruz before finally putting him away in the eighth. With the fight slipping away from his grasp, Cruz (17-2, 8 KOs) was given a short leash from his corner and referee Harvey Dock going into the eighth. When Martin slammed a flurry of punches to his head, that was it. Cruz covered up along the ropes while Bryant (18-0, 11 KOs) pounded away until Dock stopped it 45 seconds into the frame.

Former WBO middleweight titlist Andy Lee (35-3-1, 24 KOs) looked good after taking the past 15 months off from boxing as he outpointed KeAndrae Leatherwood (19-4-1, 12 KOs) in the featured preliminary bout. Lee was in control of the action from the start with his straight left, though the bulk of the fight was fought at a safe distance. Neither 160-pounder was ever hurt in the battle but Lee won rather easily via tallies of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74.
