ADIDAS ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT LUKE ROCKHOLD

(PRESS RELEASE) -- NEW YORK/PORTLAND, Ore -- After his first round submission of Tim Boetsch at UFC 172 in Baltimore, MD this past April, Luke Rockhold, the number five middleweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), knew that he needed to find a sponsor that would provide him world class equipment to keep him protected in training as he waits for the UFC to provide him with his next opponent.

“Ever since Run DMC came out with their shell toes and adidas track suits, I was hooked. I can’t imagine a better brand to represent,” said Luke Rockhold. “I’m looking forward to taking over the MMA world with adidas Combat Sports.”

"Luke Rockhold is the kind of renaissance athlete a brand dreams of working with", said Managing Director Scott Viscomi, "He understands what it means to be a professional adidas athlete, and he does everything we ask of him, in addition to bringing us opportunities. We are honored to have him on the team with Robbie and look forward to working with them as we continue our mission to add value to the USA combat sports market.”

Rockhold, 6’3” and 185 lbs., holds a professional record of 12-2, and is the number five ranked heavyweight in the UFC, the largest promoter in mixed martial arts (MMA). His run in the UFC has seen him put his striking and submission skills on display, as well as earn “Knockout of the Night” honors for his brutal finish of Costas Philippou. He was the longest reigning Middleweight champion in Strikeforce history, defending the title two times after capturing it from Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

Rockhold made his UFC debut against Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Rockhold. Since that fight, Rockhold has compiled a 2-0 record that includes a knockout over Costas Philippou and a submission over Tim Boetsch.

Luke Rockhold is set to face Michael ‘the Count’ Bisping in the main event of UFC Fight Night 55, live from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia on November 8, 2014. The card will air on the UFC’s digital network ‘Fight Pass.’ A win for Rockhold could place him in the middleweight title picture according to UFC President Dana White.

Luke Rockhold joins renowned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner Clark Gracie, UFC welterweight contender Robbie Lawler, and GLORY middleweight Wayne Barrett on the adidas global combat sports team. adidas Combat Sports is the proud title sponsor of Friday Night Fights. adidas is an equipment sponsor of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) and the adidas National Boxing Tournament in conjunction with the Oxnard Police Activities League. adidas is also a multiple year sponsor of Olympic Judo, Boxing, and Tae Kwon Do, as well as of the European Judo Union.
