“This was the best CageSport yet. Amazing fights to close out the year. Fans have a lot to be excited about next year when CageSport becomes even bigger,” said promoter, Brian Halquist about CageSport XXII.

In the heavyweight title fight between Redmond native, Anthony Hamilton, and Bill Widler, Hamilton wasted no time in taking the offense on his quest to take the vacant heavyweight title, previously held by Daniel Stewart. In his last fight, Hamilton knocked out his opponent 7 seconds into the fight. The method didn’t change much this time around either as right when the clock started ticking, Hamilton and Widler charged at each other and threw blow after blow. The fight went down to the ground where Hamilton had control and after some vicious ground and pound, the ref stopped the fight 38 seconds into the 1st round and declared Hamilton the winner via TKO.

Undoubtedly the fight of the night belonged to Drew Brokenshire vs. Julian Erosa with Erosa’s featherweight title on the line. Both fighters brought a huge fan base to the Emerald Queen as the crowd was on their feet for a full 25 minutes of the 5 round bout. Both fighters showed tremendous effort and skill throughout the fight. Erosa showed a good ability to defend and counter, while Brokenshire was the aggressor and continually connected on straight shots that looked to phase Erosa, but not enough to take him out. While fighting in the clinch, Brokenshire was able to use his knees to land body shots. At the start of the final round, Brokenshire raised his arms and had a huge portion of the showroom cheering him on. Knowing that the fight was close, Erosa and Brokenshire battled it out for the final 5 minutes and kept with the pace they showed throughout the entire fight. In the end, the judges all scored the fight 49-46 in favor of new featherweight champion, Drew Brokenshire.

Other fights include Charon Spain earning a victory over Chanti Johnson with a last second knockout kick. Craig Jackson improved to 5-2 after defeating the previously undefeated Harrison Bevens. Benny Vinson and debut fighter, RJ Murphy, grinded it out 3 rounds to a draw. Cory Vom Baur was too much for Will Comstock to handle as he earned a 2nd round TKO. Richard Foster landed a couple of knock down head kicks on his way to a victory over Damion Martindale. Travis Johnston and Josh Solis came out swinging and after taking the fight to the ground, Solis was able to land a 1st round armbar. Eduardo Torres and Manny Russell were able to win their professional debuts as well.

Halquist Productions will bring the Northwest’s most premier MMA promotion, CageSport back to the Emerald Queen Casino on February 16 for CageSport XXIII. Also on the schedule is Battle at the Boat 90, also at the Emerald Queen Casino on January 5th.
