Hunter Colvin Is Not Hiding his Game Plan Ahead of LFA 101

Hunter Colvin is currently 2-0, so it is fitting that he is scheduled to appear at LFA 101, titled “The Undefeated,” on March 12. His opponent, Obinwa Ikebunna, is also 2-0, so as the saying goes, someone’s 0 has got to go.

A black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Colvin competes regularly in high-profile grappling events like Fight-2-Win and Submission Underground. When a competitor comes into MMA with a background like that their game plan can be a little predictable, but Colvin claims he is just fine with that.

“I don’t think there’s any mystery on what my gameplan is; it’s just a matter of if they can stop it or not,” Colvin told Sherdog.com.

Colvin competed eight times in grappling events in 2020, his busiest year as a competitor, so COVID protocols and no crowds won’t be anything new to the 26-year-old grappler.

As far as how he matches up against Ikebunna, Colvin said, “We’re both 2-0, we’re pretty green in the MMA world. I think he’s coming from kickboxing and I’m coming from jiu-jitsu. He got his last win by submission so he does have some ground skills, but I think I’m going to be superior in the grappling exchanges.”

Colvin says he started jiu-jitsu to get into MMA, but over time, he fell in love with the art. While that passion might have sidetracked him from building a more lengthy MMA record, he believes he was sidetracked in a good way. Of his entry into MMA from grappling, he said, “I want to prove my jiu-jitsu can work in a real setting and, what perfect way to do it besides MMA?”
